Hi, my name is Hunter and I am a 3 year old German Shepherd - Akita cross. My humans split up and so I need a new home. I am a very cheerful and tail-wagging boy, but somewhat aloof until I get to know you. I am very active and athletic - my passions in life are running and exploring. I desperately desire a very active, physical home, where I can run and hike - I would be miserable as a backyard pet. I am very smart and am eager to learn and to please.
Let me tell you more about myself in hopes it will help you better decide if I will be your dream dog.
-I am exceptionally cheerful, but am not a clingy, “velcro” dog. When I go hiking I tend to wander and explore, but I’m usually within eye contact of my owners, and I generally come quickly when called. I love to sniff and explore and mark where I go.
-I am completely house broken and do not have separation anxiety... I will not tear things up while you are away and do not need to be kept in a crate.
-I am very well behaved at the vet clinic and I am terrific at getting my nails trimmed or dremmeled.
-I am submissive to people and am very eager to please, but I have not been around a lot of other dogs and I don’t always know how to act. I sometimes play rough (but I’ve never broken the skin) with other dogs. I tend to be a bit dominant with some dogs and try to mount them which irritates them a lot. For this reason I should have an owner who knows how to correct this behavior. It’s not a big thing, but I will need some work on this. I have never attacked another dog.
-I play very well with some dogs that I know well. I can play for hours. I have lived amicably with a cat for the past six months.
